Product information of the BS5467 cable
The BS5467 cable has an aluminium or steel wire armour and can be used for power and auxiliary control. Applicable in underground, power networks, outdoor and indoor applications and for the use of cable ducting.

Applicable in ATEX zones
Cables used in ATEX zones need to comply with certain (construction) requirements. The BS5467 cable meets these requirements. We will give you two examples. Empty spaces between the cores are not allowed as this makes the transportation of flammable liquids and gasses possible. Therefore, the bedding or the inner sheath of the cable needs to be pressed. Another requirement is that the outer sheath of the cable must be made of an elastomer, a thermoplastic or a thermoset material.
Advantages of the BS5467 cable Single and Multi core
Cables that are not UV resistant will be affected when they are exposed to direct sunlight. The BS5467 cable is UV resistant and can therefore be used above ground in the open air. The outer sheath of the cable will not be harmed by the ultra-violet light which normally dries out a cable or causes cracks or bursts in the sheath. This will preserve the functionality of the cable.
Cables used to be responsible for spreading fire. The BS5467 cable is flame retardant. This means that this cable is designed in a way that it will not spread fire. Cables with these advantages are often used in buildings and at locations where people live, work and travel / move.
Aluminium Wired Armour (AWA) – BS5467 Single core
The armouring of aluminium wires protects this cable from physical elements. The aluminium ensures that the BS5467 AWA Single core will be lighter in weight compared to a steel wired armouring. This cable is therefore easier to install and less expensive.
Steel Wired Armour (SWA) – BS5467 Multi core
The armouring of steel wires protects the cable from physical elements. Sharp edges and stones can affect cables and in case of underground cables digging equipment might hit the cables. The armouring strengthens the BS5467 SWA Multi core and it will limit the damage inflicted by physical elements. The cable will maintain its functionality afterwards.
