Product information of the BS6724 cable Single and Multi core

Application

An aluminium or steel wire armoured cable for power and auxiliary control. For the use in underground, power networks, out and indoor applications. For installation where fire, smoke emission and toxic fumes create a threat to life & equipment.

Advantages

  • Halogen-free
  • UV resistant
  • Aluminium or Steel Wired Armour

Applicable in ATEX zones

Cables used in ATEX zones need to comply with certain (construction) requirements. The BS6724 cable meets these requirements. We will give you two examples. Empty spaces between the cores are not allowed as this makes the transportation of flammable liquids and gasses possible. Therefore, the bedding or the inner sheath of the cable needs to be pressed. Another requirement is that the outer sheath of the cable must be made of an elastomer, a thermoplastic or a thermoset material.

Advantages of the BS6724 cable Single and Multi core

Halogen-free

Halogen-free cables such as the BS6724 cable do not produce toxic gases in case of fire. This means that the cable does not contain fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine or astatine which causes toxic gases during a fire. Toxic gases can damage equipment and limit chances for people to escape because gases are deadly. This cable has a higher fire safety, causes less damage in case of a fire and is environmentally-friendly.

UV resistant

Cables that are not UV resistant will be affected when they are exposed to direct sunlight. The BS6724 cable is UV resistant and can therefore be used above ground in the open air. The outer sheath of the cable will not be harmed by the ultra-violet light which normally dries out a cable or causes cracks or bursts in the sheath. This will preserve the functionality of the cable.

Aluminium Wired Armour (AWA) – BS6724 Single core

The armouring of aluminium wires protects this cable against physical elements. The aluminium ensures that the BS6724 AWA Single core will be lighter in weight compared to when a steel wired armouring would be used. This cable is therefore easier to install and this kind of armouring is less expensive.

Steel Wired Armour (SWA) – BS6724 Multi core

The armouring of steel wires protects the cable from physical elements. Sharp edges and stones can affect cables and in case of underground cables digging equipment might hit the cables. The armouring strengthens the BS6724 SWA Multi core and it will limit the damage inflicted by physical elements. The cable will maintain its functionality afterwards.

Flame retardant

Cables used to be responsible for spreading fire. The BS6724 cable is flame retardant. This means that this cable is designed in a way that it will not spread fire. Cables with these advantages are often used in buildings and at locations where people live, work and travel / move.
